Coastal erosion: a threat to sea turtle nesting habitat, east coast of India

Coastal erosion is a major concern and threat to the coastal habitats, livelihood socio-economic developments. The aims of present research are investigate beach dynamics, status, protection measures world famous nesting habitat near Rushikulya estuary, south Odisha coast, India. Shoreline mapping rate changes for period 8 years (2005–2013) on each side inlet, 3-year profile study at six transects, 2 (2009 2010) sediment texture studies along with processes provide clear glance health. observed were significant (47–126 m) northward growth sand spit deposition due deformation spit. From 2008 2011, southern part experienced high erosion, while northern under seasons. Medium predominated beach, foreshore zone has fine accumulation during northeast monsoon period. Annual in wave pattern reversal wind current conditions make cyclic status depends upon inlet shifting human intervention situated estuary. To avoid chronic needs be cut from mainland through regular monitoring beach. may help prepare framework proper management conservation habitat.
